Recent government studies have identified that poor mental health costs employers between £33 billion and £42 billion a year, and the UK economy between £74 billion and £99 billion per year. Supporting mental health in the workplace has never been more important, and we fully recognise and value the role that employers play when they take positive action to provide workplace mental health and wellbeing support to their staff.
Reacting to mental health isn’t just about sourcing a counsellor, it’s about finding a partnership that helps change behaviours and views within the workplace, recognising that creating a healthy and supportive working environment can make a difference.
TAC Healthcare can support and advise on how to deliver a proactive rather than reactive mechanism that will provide greater returns. A senior management led initiative shows commitment to employees, and includes:
✅ Comprehensive programs bespoke to you and your identified needs.
✅ Line manager training/awareness to support and assist staff who disclose a mental health issue.
✅ Reviewing working conditions promotes good mental health.
✅ Policies and practices are embedded to encourage a good work/life balance.
✅ Access to taking regular breaks away from workstations.
✅ Senior managers actively engaging in initiatives.
We can provide comprehensive packages, face-to-face consultations in the workplace or at one of TAC Healthcare UK wide facilities.
This service is delivered through evidence based, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which can be very effective in helping with conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic and trauma. Stress is subjective and occurs when pressures (such as work or family) become excessive and our threat survival system engages. This leads to physical changes which skew our ability to think clearly.
Therapy can help identify your triggers, become more aware of your distress levels rising and help the person identify more helpful ways of coping and thinking.
We also specialise in another evidence-based treatment called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). This treatment has proven very effective with traumas and anxiety problems as well as self-worth or performance issues. Here eye movements or bodily actions, mimic the mind’s natural healing process found during REM sleep, whilst safely uncovering the upsetting event. This bilateral stimulation promotes a different way of thinking about the traumatic memory reduce the amount of nightmares and re-experiences a person has and extinguish the emotional stress and upset the person feels when thinking about the incident, so they can continue to enjoy a fulfilling work and home life.
We can provide a range of mental health training, ranging from bespoke strategy lead mental health and wellbeing programmes, to First Aid for Mental Health which will enable the workforce to be familiar with mental health conditions and to become a ‘first aider’ with regards to assisting the person and directing them to help. We also provide more specific workforce awareness training on mental health, for example mental health training for managers and ways to improve wellbeing both in life and in the workplace.
Sometimes a different approach is necessary, for example when someone is struggling to come to terms with a loss, this could be the loss of a loved one or perhaps a relationship breakdown; we also provide an experienced counselling service for those struggling with life and adjustment.
You cannot foresee when a traumatic event is going to occur. Organisations operating in a high risk sector are likely to face potentially traumatic situations, which if not handled swiftly and professionally, can lead to post traumatic stress disorder and sickness absence within the workforce. TRiM (Trauma Risk Management) is a trauma-focused support system designed to help people who have experienced a traumatic event. When a traumatic incident occurs, we can mobilise TRiM practitioners at short notice to both offshore and onshore sites to provide TRiM support to those affected by the event and help them make sense of a tragic situation whilst also providing a duty of care and protecting your biggest asset, people.
Ongoing support for your colleagues to ensure they are fully supported and engaged to achieve the best outcome.
